Parameters, with the source named

Everything below is quoted from a published technical datasheet or a named standard. Where a product does not publish a value, the table says "not published" — that is a statement about documentation, not about performance.

Sealers by the problem they are designed for

Sealers are developed against different failure modes, and comparing them row by row produces conclusions the data cannot support. The useful comparison is a problem map: start from the failure you have, then look at what each product's published data addresses.

ProductDesigned againstWhat its published data highlights
GT-Sealer 501HTSealing before a dehydrogenation bake; high-strength fasteners 250 °C bake without discolouration, corrosion resistance retained after dehydrogenation; 100–400 ml/L; pH 7.5–10 no adjustment; friction 0.13–0.18
FINIGARD 105Zinc and zinc-alloy systems with a matching passivation; automotive fasteners Organic-mineral concentrate; 750–1000 ml/L; 120 °C thermal shock 1 h with 240 h no white rust / 720 h no red rust; friction 0.15 ± 0.03 (DIN 946)
350 WL8Zinc passivated surfaces where a low friction coefficient is the priority Silicate-based organic/inorganic reactive system; 450–900 ml/L barrel / 200–400 ml/L rack; friction 0.08–0.12; stated not to cause hydrogen embrittlement

Salt spray: agree the criterion before the number

CriterionWhat it means
White rust at 96 hThe barrier lasted 96 h at the weakest point. Sensitive to film quality and passivation.
Red rust at 240 hThe zinc was not consumed at that point. Driven mainly by coating thickness.
Scribed vs unscribedA scribe tests under-film corrosion spreading, not barrier performance. Different failure mode, different acceptance rule.
GB/T 10125 / ISO 9227 / ASTM B117Similar but not identical. A result is only comparable within the same standard and the same chamber practice.

Five questions before you choose

  1. Is the part baked after plating? If yes, the sealer must be rated for the bake temperature and the salt-spray data must be generated after the bake.
  2. What is the coating system? Zinc, zinc-nickel, zinc-iron, zinc-cobalt or aluminium — the sealer must be compatible with the passivation on top of it.
  3. What is the acceptance criterion? White rust or red rust, at which hours, under which standard, with or without a scribe.
  4. Is the joint torque-controlled? Then friction coefficient and its scatter matter as much as corrosion, and a torque-tension test is mandatory.
  5. What is the working concentration and drag-out? These two numbers decide the chemical cost per square metre far more than the drum price does.
What this site will not do: quote a salt-spray guarantee for your part. The number depends on your zinc thickness, passivation, film weight, geometry and chamber. The only reliable figure is the one measured on your own parts in a small, controlled batch.

Disclaimer: this is an independent technical resource. Parameters are quoted from published product datasheets (TDS) with sources named, and are not extrapolated. Results vary with substrate, coating thickness, passivation system and equipment; validate any process change on a small batch first. We do not provide product quotations or sell chemicals.
